Design of the knife shaft on a rubber shredder machine

Abstract

Used tire rubber shredder machine or Rubber Shredder Machine is a machine used to shred used tire rubber waste in order to reduce the accumulation of used tire rubber waste. This final project aims to design a knife and knife shaft on a Rubber Shredder Machine. The machine is designed with an electric motor with a power of 1500 watts or 2 HP with a speed of 1400 rpm which is transmitted by a 1:20 gear box resulting in a speed of 70 rpm. The shredder knife is made of Hardox 500 material with a rotating knife diameter (Dynamic) ∅120 mm, an inner diameter of ∅ 30 mm, and a knife thickness of 20 mm. Furthermore, the knife shaft, the knife shaft uses AISI 4340 material which has a maximum stress of 1931 MPa and a yield stress of 934.2 MPa, a knife shaft with a diameter of 30 mm, and a shaft length of 400 mm gets a torque of 204.6 N. The Rubber Shredder Machine has a maximum capacity of 3 kg / minute. The frame is made of 30x30 mm hollow steel with a thickness of 2 mm to ensure stability and durability during operation. Tests show that the Rubber Shredder Machine successfully produces rubber pieces with a consistent size using a mesh measuring approximately ±10 mmx10 mm, and the machine operates well without slipping.
